Alloytec V6 Timing Chain Problems
The Alloytec V6 engine found in VZ and VE Commodores commonly experiences timing chain stretch, typically becoming noticeable between 80,000 and 120,000km. This issue begins with a subtle rattling noise on cold starts. Still, it can quickly progress to complete timing chain failure, causing catastrophic engine damage. The problem is particularly prevalent in vehicles that have experienced irregular oil change intervals or been subjected to frequent short trips.
